Social Effects of Acne
Acne makes the sufferer to feel inferior among the peer groups and causes stress and emotions
Acne Vulgaris is a ‘big’ problem to many people and they feel reluctant to go outing, attend the close friend’s birthday party or even for shopping. Every time they need or want to hide their faces with heavy make-up’s or by leaving a long hair run on their faces.
In the recent years, acne patients have seen a substantial improvement in the medications and treatments but the image of acne affected people being the same. They feel dirty, ugly and depressed.
In the recent years, a lot of money has been spent on the development and treatment of acne and still a lot of research is being done. But relatively little amount or energy being spent on the social and mental effects it causes on the sufferers. Several studies conducted also indicate the same. The emotional stress it causes makes the human feel ill and disabled. It deprives them of their normal life.
Emotions can’t be measured
It is indeed very difficult to find out the causes of these emotions and mental stress. The depression, anger, lack of self-esteem all these things can happen due to acne but cannot pinpointed to be the effects of acne. The child may have the troubles in school, college or from any other source.
Science has developed and scientists are using psychometrics to measure the emotional stress of a person but cannot be found out the reasons exactly that cause the stress. The stress can be from job environment, with colleagues, peer groups etc.
According to a study conducted revealed the fact of the sufferers feel reluctant to go out and feel inferior to others. When they are with their friends or in groups, they come across a tremendous pressure about their outer look. An acne sufferer said that she feels shy to go out to a shop even to buy a candy as she feels like everybody is watching her.
They also imagine that people hate them. They cannot distinguish between the mother’s advice not to eat the spicy foods and the co-adults mockery at them. In a study conducted among girls revealed that many of them think their parents’ suggestions or advice is hurting them simply because they kept saying that the acne is because of the improper food habits they developed.
These are the feelings which lead to family conflicts which set them part from their peer groups and more the time they spent lonely they are liable to emotional stress.
